This week was the first of the two Rafferty Cup qualifying medal rounds, with the top eight from each division going through to the knockout stages. Despite the warmer and firmer ground conditions only seven of 71 players managed to hit handicap or better, the overall winner was Leslie Johnson beating Brian McDermott on countback with nett 68. Congratulations to all. Next week is the second qualifier and again the top eight from each division will go through, if any of the top eight next week happen to have got through this week, then places go to the next available placement, so still all to play for.

Division One results (points)

Simon Collins (69) Lowest Gross 74

Richard Jones-Penny (69)

Rob Sobers (70)

Division Two results (points)

Leslie Johnson (68)

Brian McDermott (68)

Jack Naughton (69)

Friday Club Night was well attended with music by Andreas, an enjoyable evening with good food. Our 1895 Prix Fixe Menu has just been launched so give it a try – it’s available every Tuesday and Thursday.

Sunday was the fourball draw, which saw 26 of us play and the winners who were a three ball with a ghost player (they virtually won it with 93 without it) was Len Palmer, Jack Bidmead, and Simon Lanario with a very good score of (98 points). More good news for our club teams this week as the Rabbits won their match against Crews Hill 5 to 1. Their second game and second win! Well done to all players.

Booking is now open on IG for Captains Charity Day on May 5th, please don’t worry if you can’t make up a team, we will find one for you. If anyone is able to donate any raffle prizes or premium lots for the charity auction, please do reach out, whatever you can donate will be greatly received for a fantastic cause. More info to follow in due course.

Danny and I are very much looking forward to playing our Captain and pro Challenges, which will culminate with whichever pair manages to beat us by the biggest margin, being invited to play a rematch at Royal Cromer Golf Club, please email Danny or myself and we can book you in.

A bit of a nag again. Please remember to repair pitch marks and divots - this helps enormously with the repair of the course and greens if done straight away. Also, as the hut is self-service on a Saturday for the time being, please leave it as you wish to find it, unfortunately it’s becoming messier every week and if it can’t be kept clean, we will have to keep it closed.

As we are now underway for the season, a reminder that the 13th is the Captain’s Charity Hazard. If you go into the water then a donation into any of the buckets around the clubhouse will be gratefully received, if like me that does happen a little too often! Then an idea to see you through the year could be a one-off donation via the JustGiving Page of £10.

Happy Golfing.
