Firstly, I wish you all and your families a very happy, healthy, and prosperous New Year. I’ve just returned from playing golf in Norfolk, which after playing on 17 temporary greens (due to frosty conditions), made me realise just how blessed we are with ours at BHP, even though the course is closed at the time of writing this, which I know is frustrating for all. Leigh and his team are doing a great job of trying to keep us in play as much as possible. Hopefully we will be able to get out at the weekend if not before.

Christmas seems a distant blur, and New Year’s Eve an even bigger one! The party at the Club was superb and it was great fun with so many people dancing into the small hours - I’m sure there were a few sore heads in the morning. Thanks to all involved making it happen, it’s another great memory from my year as Captain.

On the golfing front, we played the annual Bush Babies competition on the 27th, which is another great club event of 18 holes of golf, a meal, and prize-giving followed by the Zag Putter challenge in the George Low bar afterwards. The pairs competition was won by Jon Copley and Ross Russo and the Zag Putter was won by Bozhidar Aleksov, who was awarded the gold plated putter for his putting prowess. Special thanks to Brian Mc Dermott and John White for organising it all.

Winter League week 14 only had 13 brave enough players enter, with Finley Boon-Brown winning Division 1 with 33 points and Martin Taylor with 34 points in Division 2 - congratulations to all.

Division One results (points)

Finley Boon-Brown (33)
Kevin Lewis (32)
Rob Sobers (29)

Division Two results (points)

Martin Taylor (34)
Richard Paterson (22)
Graham Edwards (22)

The winter League table is now online, currently Asa Lowther is six points clear at the top of the table with 221 points, Sam Weller in 2nd on 215 and Dave Boss in 3rd.

Unfortunately the Fourball Draw was cancelled due to the weather closing the course so the next one will be the February 2nd.

Now for the first nag of the year, please remember to repair/re-lay your divots and pitch marks when out on the course - it’s more important than ever at this time of the year. Below is a photo of something that we should not be seeing out on the course, no less than six divots in a row!

Danny and I are very much looking forward to playing our Captain and Pro Challenges, which will culminate with whichever pair manages to beat us by the biggest margin, being invited to play a rematch at Royal Cromer Golf Club. Please email Danny or me and we can book you in.

As we are now underway for the season, a reminder that the 13th is the Captain’s Charity Hazard. If you go into the water then a donation into any of the buckets around the clubhouse will be gratefully received, if like me that does happen a little too often! Then an idea to see you through the year could be a one-off donation via the JustGiving Page of £10.

Happy Golfing.
